Hiya~ Before I start, I would like you guys to know that I have nothing against cosplays which show skin or people who are pretty or have fair skin.  And this entry is not for my sake.  It is for the other cosplayers who haven't had the chances they deserve yet.


This little rant is about a recent observation I have made about the cosplay community I'm in.  I'm starting to notice a sad trend wherein cosplay has just become one huge beauty pageant.  It seems like a cosplay gets attention by showing skin, dressing sexily, having a pretty face, having fair skin, etc.  I have nothing against sexy cosplays or pretty people/fair skinned people, but I'm just disturbed at how numerous people use cosplay as a ploy to get attention or gain fans.

Please don't think I'm jealous of these people. I'm very happy with the amount of support I get ( even 1 view makes me happy : )  ).  I just think there are other cosplayers who are more deserving of this attention.  Those cosplayers who actually work on their costumes or work on saving up their money to buy cosplay necessities.  My heart goes out to these people because I'm doing exactly what you're doing.  None of my costumes are professionally done.  I usually get family help or I make them myself with the materials I can afford.  It just hurts to know there are cosplayers out there who are using their own skills, sweat, blood, and tears to make these costumes, but are out-shined by....let's say...some person who doesn't really know what cosplay is and is prancing about the con in a bikini. (Trust me I've seen it all folks..)

It's sad to see something you've loved, grown up with, and believed in to turn into one huge popularity contest. Cosplay is a way of life.  It is an amazing way of expressing yourself through your hardwork and skills. It is not a beauty pageant or a popularity contest. And it is definitely not a source for porn.

Cosplay is an art. A beautiful art.

Lastly, to those of you, who are like me.  When it comes to cosplaying, maybe our costume isn't professionally made, maybe we're not the prettiest or sexiest people in the con, maybe we can't afford a lot of cosplay items, or maybe our darn hair just LOVES to peek out of our self-cut wigs.  But don't look at these as flaws. Look at these as badges of honor.  Though we may be far from perfect, at least know that we still respect and enjoy this wonderful art that we know....as cosplay.
